2 Brighter Days Youth Program is designed to provide the resources and services needed for the advancement of underserved youth through the development of cognitive, social and emotional skills, in addition to health & wellness education; while maintaining high standards of performance and evaluation.
The Youth Program was carefully designed to provide a viable response to needs of underserved youth. 2 Brighter Days’ envisions nurturing a community youth and assisting them in realizing their full potential by providing a safe environment of recreation, learning and growing. The program areas of development are cognitive, social, emotional and health & wellness. 2 Brighter Days recognizes youth as any societies most valuable asset, worthy of the full support of the community to which is responsible for its growth and development. That is why youth were actively involved in the selection of program activities. The focus of the activities are to decrease at-risk behavior and increase the likelihood program participants becoming physically, mentally and emotionally healthy adults who are responsible contributing members of society.
The program participants will be on a three-year time-line. Year one focus of program participants will primarily be geared toward academic assistance, personal development and decreasing at-risk behavior by providing a safe environment for youth to positively engage with one another through an organized sport or other club activity as outlined earlier in presentation. Year two will include the components of year one on a slightly lesser scale and include program activities that are geared toward social development such as participation in a curriculum's focusing on morals, community and mentoring younger/newer program participants. Year three is the hierarchy of program participation. In this year, program participants are oriented into leadership roles where they become partly responsible for the development of showcasing what they learned through play writes and print publications, for example. The older program participants will participate in job & college fairs.
This program will operate year round Monday thru Fridays and alternate Saturdays. Hours of operation will vary on Saturday depending on the activity engaged. Monday – Friday operation will occur 2pm – 6pm (after-school) in an effort to minimize the engagement of delinquent behavior, also full days 8am – 6pm on days when school is out of session during the school year (provided program occupies non-CPS space). During summer operation the program will operate from 7an thru 6pm. Meals will be provided.
The staff will be a carefully selected positive models for personal development who genuinely care about the programs participant and fulfilling the mission. The staff will be on a duty and scheduling rotation in order to assist in their ability to maintain enthusiasm and effectiveness.
